Technical Writing Project Manager

Job Description:

Our client, located in Durham, NC is seeking a candidate for the role of a Technical Writing Project Manager. In this role, you will work one-on-one with engineers and business leaders throughout the company to study, develop and document evaluation procedures critical to the product development process, while also ensuring client satisfaction and project success through complex operational challenges.


  • Participate actively in collaborative and fast-paced environment

  • Work with engineering teams to learn existing test method procedures

  • Work independently to research and develop documentation deliverables

  • Incorporate user feedback and change requests to create easy-to-use, high quality documents

  • Coordinate and manage the documentation (establish overall knowledge management processes and procedures which involve content taxonomies, styles, sharing, and distribution)

  • Interact with other departments for process improvements

  • Perform final review/edit/proof reading prior to being published

  • Ensure establishment of style guides (definitions, metadata, processes, etc.) to ensure accuracy and consistency

  • Create process and business workflow documentation

  • Meet with all stakeholders to ensure that all requirements have been gathered

  • Interview SMEs and developers to ensure understanding of the new projects

  • Review and edit a draft of action items, owners and timelines

  • Work with company leaders to create action plans for their respective teams

  • Assess the time and budget needed to complete the project properly and ensure its completion within those parameters

Education Requirements:

    Desired Background/Skills:

    • Aptitude and passion for learning new technologies and skills; exhibit curiosity to determine the how and why of technical procedures

    • Project management planning background through coursework or applicable experience

    • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as facilitation skills

    • New product development life cycle experience

    • Lean Six Sigma and/or PMP certification desired

    • Change management or consulting experience would be a plus


    • Proficiency in MS Office 2010 software (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint)

    • Basic understanding of MS Excel, MS Visio and Adobe Acrobat

    • Sophisticated organizational and time management skills

    • Strong understanding of project management principles

    • Ability to handle multiple projects with competing priorities

    • Possesses a general understanding of formatting documents using such features as Word styles, templates, automated cross-referencing and layout control

    • Effective facilitation and presentation skills

    • Proven track record of completing projects on time
