SUGAR Research Assistant

Job Description:

Our client, a global nonprofit research organization in RTP, is seeking a Research Assistant within the Substance Use, Gender, and Applied Research program. This position will provide the successful prospect the opportunity to expand their knowledge of multidisciplinary research that seeks to reduce substance use, HIV infection, and risk behaviors; promote treatment effectiveness and compliance; and enhance family and community support in addressing substance use in under served populations in community-based settings, in a variety of ways. The successful applicant will gain experience in supporting project and communications activities, management of internal data and information, as well as insight into the business development and communications processes within a large international organization. This position is a 3 month contract position with possibility of extension located in RTP, NC. Hours are flexible. Cover letter required with application.


  • Report writing, preparation for project meetings, maintaining organization of files

  • Data cleaning and editing of project databases

  • Quantitative/qualitative data analysis

  • Support on proposal development and research project deliverables

  • Project manual development and Institutional Review Board submissions

  • Conduct literature reviews for research manuscripts

  • Prepare research manuscripts and presentations

  • Update website, develop newsletters, market studies to community, and create and enhance communication efforts of recent and/or preliminary findings of studies (i.e., via technology)

  • Project management of program, project files, and Community Collaborative Board activities

Education Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled or recent graduate masters-level student with focus in women/gender studies, global health, public health, or related field

Desired Background/Skills:


    • Experienced and skilled with SAS data sets and analysis software

    • Excellent writing abilities

    • Qualitative data collection and analyses skills a plus

    • Energy, enthusiasm, and passion to improve the lives of others

    • Strong interest and commitment to HIV gender-related prevention interventions

    • Exceptional communication and analytical skills

    • Ability to plan, anticipate, and manage multiple tasks

    • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint) and the Internet

    • Great attention to detail and works well with others, willingness to be flexible
