Sr. Financial Analyst

Job Description:

Our client, a global non-profit research organization in RTP, is seeking a strong financial analyst to add to their Corporate FP&A team. This person will have financial analyst responsibilities supporting the ITS and Facilities functions including providing finance support to the facilities/ITS leadership team, operations, capital investments and other special projects. The core responsibilities for this position include serving as the financial analyst and main day to day finance support for the functions including monthly close and reporting processes, budgeting, forecasting, capital investment and other transactional and ad-hoc activities. This position requires someone who has the right blend of financial and operational knowledge, critical thinking, desire to learn and customer service mindset to be successful in this role. This position will operate in a matrix environment; the position reports organizationally to the Senior Manager, Corporate FP&A but also has a strong operational reporting relationship to the business leadership team. This position is a 3 month contract role with possibility of extension located in Research Triangle Park, NC.


  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and monthly reporting for the functions

  • Support the monthly close and reporting process for the functions, including preparation of journal entries/allocations, variance analysis and other reporting for monitoring financial performance

  • Preparation of monthly analyses to support the monitoring of internal allocations

  • Support the communication of allocation updates to the business units and G&A functions and other ad-hoc requests from the business units

  • Support various transactional processes such as reviewing and initiating work orders

  • Support the preparation of capital plan and ongoing maintenance of the plan and depreciation curve

  • Support the preparation of business cases for capital investments

  • Point of contact for business unit finance and G&A functions regarding questions on internal allocations

  • Analyze large amounts of data and package into format that is consumable by management

  • Build and maintain flexible financial models used to facilitate sensitivity and "what-if" analyses to assess and calculate allocation and depreciation impact of capital investments or other operational decisions

  • Look for opportunities to drive process improvements and create work efficiencies

  • Support various projects and initiatives as requested

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Finance

  • Five or more years of financial analysis experience

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Government Contracting and/or Facilities experience

  • Prior Corporate FP&A or Unit/Division Finance experience


  • Advanced Excel skills are essential

  • Demonstrated expertise working with MS Outlook, PowerPoint and Word

  • Analytical and creative problem solver

  • Ability to analyze data and package into consumable format for management

  • Strong at multi-tasking and enjoys a diversity of tasks; able to independently prioritize work to meet deadlines

  • Able to effectively and proactively communicate and collaborate with all levels of the organization

  • Organized and deadline driven

  • Ability to communicate to non-financial staff and connect the numbers to the day to day operations
