Specimen Processing Specialist

Job Description:

Our client, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has an immediate need for Specimen Processing Specialists and Lab Assistants at their Burlington facility. In these roles, candidates will have the opportunity to work in a lab setting as part of an international genomics project. This is a multi-discipline position with 3 primary components: specimen accessioning, sample splitting/sorting and data entry. All positions will work in a laboratory setting and applicants must be comfortable working around human specimens (saliva, urine and/or blood). We are currently hiring for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift schedules. Pay rates will be dependent on shift assignments. These positions will work on an open-ended contract basis with the potential for permanent hire.


  • Unpack specimens and organize containers for further processing

  • Handle a high volume of human specimens daily (saliva)

  • Prepare all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments

  • Accurately perform data entry and verification of test requisition information

  • Prepare excess specimen samples for storage and resolve any document-problem specimens

Education Requirements:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Experience working with hazardous materials or in a clinical/healthcare setting

  • Manufacturing, BioTech, or Medical Laboratory experience is preferred


  • Experience working in a face-paced, hands-on work environment

  • Prior experience in manufacturing or healthcare is preferred

  • Effective written and verbal communication

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as work with others

  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs

  • Ability to work in a repetitive work environment including standing or remaining seated for prolonged periods

  • Proper identification of known hazardous materials in the workplace and knowledge of personal protection measures. Must comply with applicable safety procedures
