Specimen Processing Specialist

Job Description:

Our client, a national provider of diagnostic testing, is hiring for Specimen Processing Specialists at their Burke facility in Gibsonville, NC. In these roles, employees will have the opportunity to work in a warehouse setting as part of an international genomics project. These positions will work on a contract basis for up to three to four months. This is a multi-discipline position with 3 primary components: specimen accessioning, sample splitting/sorting and data entry. All positions will work in a warehouse setting and applicants must be comfortable working around human specimens. We are currently hiring for 1st and 2nd shift schedules. Pay rates will be dependent on shift assignments and will be between $11-12/hr.


  • Unpack specimens and organize containers for further processing

  • Will work in a fast-paced environment handling a high volume of human specimens daily

  • Prepare all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments

  • Accurately perform data entry and verification of test requisition information

  • Prepare excess specimen samples for storage and resolve any document-problem specimens

Education Requirements:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Previous warehouse experience preferred


  • Experience working in a face-paced, hands-on work environment

  • Prior experience in Manufacturing, Biotechnology or Healthcare is preferred

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent computer skills including the ability to accurately type and perform data entry

  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as working with other team members

  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs

  • Ability to work in a repetitive work environment including standing or remaining seated for prolonged periods

  • Ability to properly identify hazardous materials in the workplace and knowledge of personal protection measures. Must comply with applicable safety procedures
