Job Description:
Our partner, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has an immediate need for Laboratory Assistants. These positions will be responsible for preparing laboratory specimens for designated departments and locations, prior to laboratory analysis and testing. We are currently hiring 8-hour 1st shift, Tuesday- Saturday, with flexibility for overtime. This is a contract opportunity with potential of long-term advancement. Pay rate will be $11.60-13/hr and will be dependent on experience.
Responsibilities:
Unpack specimens and categorize by type for transit to various staging areas
Handle a high volume of human specimens daily (blood, urine, stool, etc)
Prepare all specimens received, for testing in designated laboratory departments
Stage specimens, operate centrifuge, and separate serum and blood smears
Perform data entry of test requisition information
Aliquot sample for departments
Prepare excess specimen samples for storage, and resolve and document problem specimens
Answer telephones, maintain logs/records
Education Requirements:
HS Diploma or GED equivalent
Desired Background/Skills:
Experience working with hazardous materials or in a clinical/healthcare setting
Qualifications:
Experience working in a fast paced, hands-on work environment
Prior experience in manufacturing or healthcare preferred
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment
Effective written and verbal communication
Strong attention to detail
Ability to work unsupervised as well as work with others
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
Proper identification of known hazardous materials in the work place, and knowledge of personal protection measures
Must comply with applicable safety procedures
