Specimen Accessioner

Job Description:

Our partner, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has an immediate need for Specimen Accessioner at their Tucker facility. This position will require preparing laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. This position will be a 3 month contract. Shift hours will be Monday-Friday 8am- 4:30pm. Flexibility to work overtime is required. Hours are subject to change, depending on workload.


  • Unpack specimens from branches or ports and routes specimens by type to various staging areas

  • Handle a high volume of specimen each day (blood, urine, saliva etc)

  • Prepare all specimen received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations such as staging of specimen, centrifuge, separate serum, and blood smears

  • May perform data entry of test requisition information

  • Aliquot and seperate samples for departments

  • Prepare excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and document problem specimen

  • Answer telephones, maintain logs/records

Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Experience in a manufacturing or lab setting is preferred but not required


  • Experience performing repetitive tasks in a fast paced work environment

  • Experience utilizing computerized databases

  • Familiarity with lab equipment is preferred

  • Effective written and verbal communication

  • Ability to research information

  • Staying active and attentive to details

  • Ability to multitask

  • Work unsupervised and work well with others

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

  • Proper identification of known hazardous material in the work place

  • Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens and personal protective equipment will be provided

  • Must comply with applicable safety procedures
