Specimen Accessioner First Shift


Job Description:

Our partner, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has an immediate need for Specimen Accessioners at their Wilmington facility. This position will require preparing laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. This position will be a 6 month contract. Shift hours will be Monday through Friday, 11am- 7:30pm. Flexibility to work overtime is required. Hours are subject to change, depending on workload.


Responsibilities:


  • Unpack specimens and categorize by type for transit to various staging areas

  • Will perform fast paced work while standing

  • Handle high volume of human specimens daily (blood, urine, stool, etc)

  • Prepare all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments

  • Staging of specimens, operating centrifuge, separating serum and blood smears

  • Perform data entry of test requisition information

  • Aliquots sample for departments

  • Prepare excess specimen samples for storage; resolve and document problem specimens

  • Answer telephones, maintain logs/records


Education Requirements:


  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent

    Qualifications:


    • Experience working in a fast paced, hands on work environment

    • Prior experience in manufacturing or healthcare is preferred

    • Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment

    • Effective written and verbal communication

    • Strong attention to detail

    • Ability to work unsupervised as well as work well with others

    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

    • Proper identification of known hazardous material in the work place and knowledge of personal protection measures

    • Must comply with applicable safety procedures
