Senior Marketing Manager

Job Description:

Our client, Wake County Economic Dvelopment, is looking for a Senior Marketing Manager. The Senior Manager, Strategic Marketing & Programs is responsible for leading all internal and external communication, marketing, and public relations initiatives for Wake County Economic Development. Engagement with EDGE investors and key stakeholder organizations is a critical component of this role.


  • Providing leadership in the development, implementation, promotion, evaluation, and modification of public relations and marketing strategies and collateral delivered by WCED.

  • Write press releases, blogs, scripts/talking points, newsletter articles, marketing material content, etc. Review and edit written communications prepared by staff.

  • Oversee and prepare the presentation of research, information and reporting to our internal and external audiences including monthly reporting, PowerPoint presentations, and our annual report.

  • Identify and develop a resource list of local subject matter experts and partner to promote as thought leaders in media.

  • Organize a focus group with partners, investors, and companies to identify opportunities for editorial placement in local and relevant trade and national media or conduct through marketing committee.

  • Build relationships with key media members and outlies to facilitate the pitching of stories to be seen as a resource for reporters covering topics relevant to WCED's mission.

  • Track and report on the effectiveness of marketing and public relations efforts including social media analytics, website SEO, story placement, marketing campaign, etc.

  • Assist WCED staff with the communications associated with economic development project announcements.

  • Manage specific proactive marketing initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director.

  • Collaborate with the Raleigh Chamber Communications team on ED events. Assist in the creation of all content for ED events.

  • Manage and oversee Marketing Coordinator and all related job functions of Marketing Coordinator.

  • Develop and implement a national public relations and story-telling campaign strategy in partnership with regional leadership.

  • Manage the contract with DCI for the national media campaign.

  • Assist in the creation of a hyper-local campaign with the City of Raleigh per the program of work.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact to coordinate all marketing and public relations projects with outside vendors.

  • Serve as the internal coordinator among the WCED staff and vendors to ensure consistent marketing messages, use of style guide, consistent branding, and an integrated communications strategy for all marketing efforts.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, communication, English, journalism, marketing or related.

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Approaches work with a "roll up the sleeves and get it done" mentality with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, vendors, partners, investors, and the business community.

  • Proven experience in strategic planning, writing, media relations, project management, public relations, vendor/agency management, budget management, presentation development, social media, and website effectiveness.

  • Knowledge, experience and comfort using and learning technologies including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Design Suite, and social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.) Graphic design experience preferred but not required.


  • 3-5 years progressively responsible for and experience with implementing initiatives in marketing and/or public relations. Economic Development or place marketing a plus.

  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and willingness to work beyond traditional work hours to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent project or program management experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
