Senior Copywriter

Job Description:

Our client, in Raleigh, NC, is looking for a Senior Copywriter to add to their team! The Senior Copywriter is responsible for supervision of all copy-related branding efforts throughout the company in printed and electronic materials. This position will work with the Creative Manager and Creative Team to review creative strategies, develop concepts and provide creative lead from proposed copy and concept direction on various projects and determining media strategies and vehicles. This position will also develop advertising copy from conception to completion for print, broadcast, and online media to promote sale of goods and services of our client. This position is contract.


  • Write advertising articles, collateral, direct mail materials, online copy, speeches, trade show presentations, and other related informative and promotional materials that meet the client's program objectives

  • Write and print preliminary copy draft, headlines, captions in established format and reviews and approve graphics and copy materials assigned and developed by staff

  • Consult with supervisors and/or other team members to evaluate individual project needs and prioritizes, tracks, handles, and maintains records of the elements, costs, and time schedules of multiple projects

  • Interview individuals, attend meetings, and research printed and online resources to obtain information and data for publication, verify facts, and clarify information

  • Read copy to detect errors in spelling, punctuation and syntax and presents copy to supervisors and/or appropriate team members for approval, and negotiate revisions until approved

  • Act as copy style editor to obtain information on product or service and discuss style and length of advertising copy and act as liaison with other internal departments to help ensure the internal consistency of written branding messages and style

  • Review advertising trends, consumer surveys, and other data regarding marketing of specific and related goods and services to formulate presentation approach

  • Oversee translation services to develop copy in foreign languages

  • Confer with heads of Art and Production Departments to discuss department requirements and scheduling, outline basic presentation concepts, and coordinate creative activities

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university or reputable design school; or

  • 8+ years related experience and/or training; or

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Membership in National Advertising or Design organizations preferred


  • Proficient with PC basics and Macintosh computers and design-related programs is a plus

  • Experience with online proofing software is a plus

  • Strong leadership skills to work closely with all internal departments and vendors to concept and create individual project/program needs

  • Industry experience with advertising agencies, design groups, in-house design groups (retail and corporate)

  • Experience in overseeing branding efforts with large companies

  • Ability to organize and maintain multiple jobs simultaneously in fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment is required

  • Demonstrated portfolio experience

  • Demonstrated ability to create materials that drive customer experience and sales results
