Job Description:

Our client, a global non-profit research firm, has an immediate need for a Senior Communications Specialist. Within our client's International Development Group (IDG), their researchers and practitioners design and implement programs across a wide range of sectors to help low- and middle-income countries and communities address complex problems and improve the lives of their citizens. IDG?s Learning, Energy, and Environment for Development (LEED) division is looking for an experienced communications professional eager to apply their talent to addressing pressing, global problems. The Senior Communications Consultant will support building the profile and visibility of LEED?s work, impact and experts to key audiences, in order to demonstrate LEED?s successes, capabilities, and value to clients, and to grow LEED?s business. The Senior Communications Consultant will provide direct communications support to business development and external communications efforts. This will be a full-time position for a minimum period of 4 months. It will be based in either the Washington, D.C office or the Research Triangle Park, North Carolina office depending on the selected candidate.


Responsibilities:


  • Work collaboratively with LEED leadership to develop and implement their communications strategy that will increase the profile of LEED?s contributions and expertise in support of business priorities

  • Work collaboratively with LEED leadership to develop and implement opportunity specific communications plans and events

  • In collaboration with the Communications Specialist and working with technical experts and project staff, develop and coordinate review of content including success stories, project feature stories, blogs, expert interviews, and brochures and other marketing material

  • Seek out new and creative approaches to showcase LEED?s work with a particular emphasis on results in the field, including human interest and success stories

  • Support global events including conferences, workshops, webinars, panel presentations, receptions, social media events, briefings, etc

  • Assist with LEED executive and internal staff communications

  • Collaborate with communications colleagues and technical experts based across the department and company to leverage expertise and resources and achieve shared communications goals

  • Provide high level communications support for company-led, donor-funded projects to include: developing project communications strategies; developing print and digital content including success stories, brochures and other marketing material, and reports; event planning and support


Education Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, international relations, political science, business administration, or a related field plus eight to ten (8-10) years of related work experience

  • Short-term consulting experience and experience in international development is a plus

  • Experience managing communications activities on behalf of a trade association, think tank, PR agency, corporate communications office, or nonprofit organization preferred. USAID experience a plus

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and establish strong working relationships with key colleagues within internal departments

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and carry out multiple activities and projects with competing deadlines

  • Excellent oral and written English language communication skills
