Project Manager - New Product Development


Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Project Manager of New Product Development to join their team. As a Project Manager, you are integral in all stages of product development and as such you will participate in and direct the implementation of hardware and software projects. You will plan and coordinate new product development activities, drive initiatives, and ultimately launch new products.


Responsibilities:


  • Lead cross functional groups consisting of product marketing, engineering and operations to develop, design, qualify, and introduce new products and solutions through market launch.

  • Provide strong proactive leadership in the execution of new product development (NPD) projects. Strong leadership characteristics must be shown in all aspects of project execution, including interactions with product management, senior management, and internal project team members.

  • Deliver strong project management skills, especially the management of scope and deliverables across multiple, concurrent projects. Communicate effectively progress, risks, and action plans for multiple, concurrent projects. Utilize internal project management software tools and methodologies.

  • Utilize excellent communication skills to build consensus and influence others across multiple internal organizations.

  • Proactively identify, communicate, and manage project risks and issues that threaten the success of NPD projects. Candidate must show the ability to manage risk in a proactive manner and provide business unit & customer-focused solutions that meet or exceed expectations.

  • Provide thought leadership on topics that add value and ROI across NPD lifecycle.

  • Ensure that solution configurations conform to product design principles and standards, are logical, and model the customer's needs.

  • Utilize effective change management best practices in leading value add and value engineering projects. Follow established internal implementation standards and best practices in the planning and execution of assigned projects.

  • When necessary, document or enhance NPD processes and procedures based on past experiences for PM developmental benefit.

  • Create and adhere to defined and approved project plans. Proactively identifies out of scope opportunities during the execution of NPD projects and pursues them in concert with the appropriate team members.

  • Provide internally-focused product development recommendations based on customer/ marketing inputs received.

  • Utilize positive people skills when providing work direction and status review for assigned project team members. Collaborate and seek commitments from internal functional and technical resources required to achieve job objectives.

  • Meet or exceed established NPD metrics including project reporting/deliverables and financial reporting.


Education Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or technical field required. Master's degree in an Engineering or technical field desired.


Desired Background/Skills:


  • PMP or other industry related certification(s) desired.

  • LED Lighting experience desired.


Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience of Project Management experience, preferably within consumer electronics or commercial lighting industries.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as a professional, positive and enthusiastic attitude.

  • Strong PC literacy including knowledge of Microsoft products, including Project, Excel, and PowerPoint, and other Project Management related software tools.

  • Commitment to product safety, quality, and reliability.

  • Demonstrated track record in facilitation of large, diverse groups to reach a consensus agreement on process.
