Part-Time Switchboard Operator


Job Description:

Our client is looking for a Part-Time Switchboard Operator to join their team! This person operates the company's primary telephone switchboard and relays incoming, outgoing and interoffice calls. The position is an as-needed, part-time position based in Cary, NC.


Responsibilities:


  • Receives and distributes external and internal calls on a multi-line switchboard; uses PC to find information needed to connect to proper parties in a prompt and courteous manner. Supplies appropriate information to callers and knows where to locate such information.

  • Ensures there is a paper back-up copy of the company phone list in case of emergency situations.

  • Helps maintain the company phone listing's accuracy by making sure any needed updates are brought to the attention of the employees responsible for updating the company listing.

  • Processes messages left on the General Delivery Voicemail.

  • Provides administrative support to supervisor by keeping department calendar up to date; updates

  • Key Performance Indicators (KPI) spreadsheet; approves timecards for subs as needed and helps with composition of needed documentation for policies or procedures.

  • Distributes incoming faxes between the hours of 8am and 5:30pm daily using Outlook; assists when questions arise regarding missing faxes or issues with fax distribution via MIDAS Tickets or Fax Message Line. Maintains a fax distribution guide and shares any updates to that document with all other fax administrators.

  • Keeps abreast of current campus events in order to handle calls about such events.

  • May be asked to be in charge of the office staff in the absence of the supervisor.

  • Assists in arranging coverage for department absences.

  • Assists manager with training.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education Requirements:


  • High School/GED or equivalent required


Desired Background/Skills:



    Qualifications:


    • Switchboard experience preferred

    • Multi-line phone use a must.

    • Good keyboarding skills

    • Excellent communication skills and telephone manner
