Job Description:

Our client, located in Lillington, NC is seeking an experienced Paralegal to add to their team! This individual will perform specialized legal program and technical administrative support duties for the Legal Services Department and staff attorneys, as well as other duties as assigned. This is a full time, contract opportunity.


  • Serves as the receptionist for the legal department

  • Greets the public in person or by telephone; acts as liaison with various internal departments as well as with outside agencies

  • Assists the Attorney with office management including purchasing, and budget preparation and tracking

  • Conducts various document searches and factual research, including searches on computerized systems when applicable

  • Tracks and routes contracts for County goods and services; logs in, contacts departments for appropriate documentation, insurance certificates and attachments

  • Follows up with vendors for needed documentation

  • Maintains files and records for the Legal Department, prepares spreadsheets documenting actions, maintains legal library

  • Responsible for document organization and production, including number-stamping, redacting, scanning or photocopying and indexing of documents, checking copies, setting up and maintaining files which are organized chronologically, numerically and/or by subject matter, and preparing files for closing upon conclusion of case

  • Schedules meetings for the Attorney

  • Prepares documents prior to meetings

  • Secures information via telephone or personal contact

  • Selects appropriate materials to answer questions and often handles the inquiries independently

  • Prepare binders per witness, which contain interview memos, digests and relevant documents

  • Retrieves documents as requested by staff attorney

  • Prepares and maintains all client files, including preparing documentation in readiness for initial appointment, preparing standard meeting notes, file notes and letters, opening client and matter on computerized database

Education Requirements:

  • Associates degree preferred

Desired Background/Skills:


    • Working knowledge of legal terminology

    • Working knowledge of legal practices and procedures relating to contracts, real state and court proceedings

    • Considerable knowledge of and ability to use official business practices

    • Ability to maintain files and records and to retrieve information when needed

    • Work independently and with accuracy in the preparation of legal documents, correspondence, forms, and other legal office materials

    • Ability to be tactful and courteous while being persuasive and confident on county business

    • Proven ability to compile information based on general instructions

    • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, employees, and the general public

    • Use a wide variety of other computer technology to generate work

    • Communicate effectively and to conduct the department's business in person and by telephone

    • Ability to gather and give comprehensive information and instructions, based on program knowledge and independent research
