Nonprofit Development Manager

Job Description:

Our client, a local nonprofit ministry in Wilmington, is seeking an experienced and passionate Development Manager to join their team as they continue to experience steady growth. The goal of the Development Manager is to increase the ministry's fund development capacity and to lead the development team in accountability, teamwork and continuous improvement. The Development Manager role is a full-time, salaried position offering $50-54K plus benefits.


  • Develop and execute annual fundraising plan

  • Secure financial support from individuals, foundations, corporations, churches, and clubs

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with donors; grow major gifts program and oversee prospect research

  • Supervise a committed and talented development team of two (Marketing & Events Coordinator and Development Coordinator)

  • Facilitate executive director and board member fundraising activities

  • Seek, write, and prepare all grant applications

  • Write press releases, articles, appeals, and other promotional material

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher required

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Outstanding writing skills

  • Strong interpersonal, networking, and public speaking skills

  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated experience with MS Word and Excel and the ability to manage and manipulate data

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills


  • At least 5 years of development management experience; ideal candidate will have 8-10

  • Proven track record with major gifts; self-starter

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence, integrity, and professionalism

  • Flexibility and responsiveness

  • Creativity

  • Sense of humor
