Job Description:

A Data Collection Specialist will collect data from doctors, hospitals, long-term care institutions and home care agencies. This person will work Monday-Thursday, 8:45am-5:15pm and Friday, 8:45am-4:45pm, in a production center located in North Raleigh. Salary starts at $12.50/hour and may be negotiable depending on experience. This position is located in Raleigh, NC.


  • Perform data entry tasks and navigate an electronic case management system while speaking on the phone

  • Identify the correct point of contact for each doctor, hospital or medical provider over the phone as well as successfully gain his/her cooperation for study participation

  • Communicate to medical providers the importance of the survey and why their participation is valuable

  • Send and confirm receipt of authorization forms to provider before collecting data

  • Conduct all data collection tasks according to approved protocols

  • Identify and communicate barriers to achieving goals with appropriate supervisor(s) and try to apply new solutions to gain cooperation

  • Extract and enter relevant medical and financial information into a database

  • Review and process a high volume of records efficiently and effectively

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors and co-workers

  • Attend and complete project training(s) and successfully complete post-training skills assessment

Education Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED required, post-secondary education preferred

  • Certification or experience within a health information technology department, hospital billing department, medical billing service, health insurance organization and/or working in any type of medical provider setting (doctor's office, home health agency, etc.)

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Up to 2 years of relevant work/customer service experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required

  • Related work experience may include but is not limited to: contacting, interviewing, and/or negotiating with business establishments, service providers, and other professional personnel

  • Proven business-to-business telephone etiquette and communication skills; Ability to engage and persuade stakeholders successfully

  • Excellent computer skills and experience maneuvering between multiple programs/systems

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving and critical thinking skills

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Effective time management and ability to work independently as required

  • Ability to interact comfortably and professionally with a variety of people
