Laboratory Manager II

Job Description:

Our client is hiring a Laboratory Manager to oversee their clinical laboratory in Herndon, Virginia. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily operations and administration of several departments within a LEVEL II laboratory environment. This position will operate on a Monday - Friday, 5 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Saturday/Sundays occasionally may be needed)


  • Will oversee daily operations across multiple departments and the accessioning of 20-22,000 accessions each night

  • Align department goals and priorities with corporate, divisional, and laboratory-wide goals and priorities

  • Manage the lab team of 3 supervisors and 60+ employees in a critical aspect of the laboratory

  • Conduct disciplinary actions, lead the hiring of new employees, and serve as the main point of contact for all site operations

  • Assist with work on the bench as needed and mentor employees and supervisors

  • Manage the Human Resource functions within the lab

  • Ensure departmental policies and procedures are optimized

  • Provide leadership to management and other laboratory staff

  • Develop a culture of leading by example and team mentality

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science or equivalent

  • Candidate must be eligible as a Medical Technologist (could accept Medical Scientist) certification from ASCP or AMT

Desired Background/Skills:


    • Must be MT/MLT eligible - certification is not required, but is a plus

    • Must have 2-5 years MT/MLT experience

    • Must have 5-10 years supervisory experience

    • Knowledge of clinical industry trends and technology

    • Excellent interpersonal skills

    • Strong communication skills
