Laboratory Assistant

Job Description:

Our partner, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has an immediate need for Laboratory Assistants. These positions will be responsible for preparing laboratory specimens for designated departments and locations, prior to laboratory analysis and testing. We are currently hiring for 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts, however, shift flexibility is preferred. Pay rates will range from $11 - $13/hr and will be dependent on shift assignment and experience.


  • Unpack specimens and categorize by type for transit to various staging areas

  • Handle a high volume of human specimens daily (blood, urine, stool, etc)

  • Prepare all specimens received, for testing in designated laboratory departments

  • Stage specimens, operate centrifuge, and separate serum and blood smears

  • Perform data entry of test requisition information

  • Aliquot sample for departments

  • Prepare excess specimen samples for storage, and resolve and document problem specimens

  • Answer telephones, maintain logs/records

Education Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Experience working with hazardous materials or in a clinical/healthcare setting

  • AS in Science or Medical Technology


  • Experience working in a fast paced, hands-on work environment

  • Prior experience in manufacturing or healthcare preferred

  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as work with others

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

  • Proper identification of known hazardous materials in the work place, and knowledge of personal protection measures

  • Must comply with applicable safety procedures
