Lab Technician
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Lab Technician to join our team at a global non-profit in the RTP area! This person will be responsible for performing a variety of technical lab procedures such as preparing routine solutions and reagents and performing routine analytical measurements. This is a full-time opportunity with the schedule of Mon-Fri with the flexibility to start your day anytime between 7am-8am. The starting pay rate will be $18-20/hr depending on experience. This will start out on a contract basis but with the potential to become a long-term role based on performance.
Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of technical lab procedures such as preparing routine solutions and reagents and performing routine measurements.
Demonstrate proficiency of sampling handling and laboratory equipment used for extracting samples for analyses via quarterly testing.
Perform sample analysis using less complex instrumentation, e.g., turbidity and pH.
Perform sample aliquoting/loading for ion chromatography and ICP-MS instrumentation.
Provide input on SOPs or authors SOPs specific to work activity.
Assist in the design, operation and maintenance of equipment, tools, methods and services and in diagnosing and correcting technical problems.
Make and record laboratory observations.
Perform simple calculations and collect and prepare data for evaluation.
Assist with research activities and other tasks as necessary in a laboratory environment.
Arrange and dismantle laboratory apparatus.
Collect, wash and store glassware.
Assist with receipt and inspection of raw materials.
Assist with ordering and stocking of materials and equipment.
Adhere to company and departmental Standard Operating Procedures and agency guidelines (ex. FDA, EPA, and OECD GLPs)
Label, archive and retrieve data as needed.
Perform accurate and precise aliquoting of samples using pipettes and perform quarterly verification of pipette accuracy and precision.
Assist in all aspects of sample packaging for shipment.
Organize samples for extended storage, retrieve samples from storage for subsequent analyses, and purge samples after extended storage requirements have been met
Education Requirements:
High School diploma and 6 years' experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Background/Skills:
Experience with lab instrumentation
Experience with pipetting
Experience with aliquotting
Qualifications:
Basic laboratory equipment knowledge
Knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel.
Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices.
Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment.
Ability to multi-task.
Ability to work well with others.
Ability to listen and communicate both verbally and in writing.
Ability to follow instructions.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
