Lab Assistants, 3rd Shift

Job Description:

Our partner, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has immediate needs for a Laboratory Assistants to work night shift. These positions will be responsible for preparing laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing. Pay rates will range from $10 - $11/hr and will be dependent on shift assignment and experience. Positions will work Mon - Fri 10pm - 6.30am OR 11pm - 7.30am with potential for overtime


  • Unpacks specimens and categorize by type for transit to various staging areas

  • Will perform fast paced work while standing

  • Handles high volume of human specimens daily (blood, urine, stool, etc)

  • Prepares all specimens for automated testing

  • Staging of specimens, operating centrifuge, separating serum and blood smears

  • Perform data entry of test requisition information

  • Aliquots sample for departments

  • Prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and document problem specimens

  • Answer telephones, maintain logs/records when needed

Education Requirements:

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Experience in assembly or warehouse setting

  • Experience working with hazardous materials or in a clinical/healthcare setting


  • Experience working in a fast paced, hands on work environment

  • Prior experience in manufacturing or healthcare is preferred

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Ability to work 3rd shift with flexibility to work overtime when needed

  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment

  • Effective written and verbal communication

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Ability to work unsupervised as well as working well with others

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs

  • Proper identification of known hazardous material in the work place and knowledge of personal protection measures

  • Must comply with applicable safety procedures

Other Information:

  • Possible exposure to infection from disease-bearing specimens; regularly exposed to the risk of blood-borne diseases
