Jr. Software Engineer


Job Description:

Our client, located in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Junior Software Development Engineer to contribute to the ongoing development of new systems and features as they transition away from monolithic PHP codebases. This will provide the opportunity to work with existing codebases in PHP as well as new micro-services developed in PHP, Node.js or GoLang. You will contribute to all aspects of the software including architecture, component design, development, documentation, testing and operations. This is a full time, direct hire opportunity with an exciting company that offers competitive benefits and PTO.


Responsibilities:


  • Taking part in bi-weekly sprints and daily standups

  • Providing and receiving constructive feedback on pull-request code reviews using our established Git flow

  • Learning the current code-base as you chase and squash bugs

  • Learning the current features of the software as you help test and validate the work of your peers

  • Committing PHP code directly to features designed by your peers

  • Maintaining feature test coverage across codebases to maintain high code quality

  • Communicating issues and technical roadblocks effectively to team members

  • Engaging in micro-service design and development

  • Supporting existing maintenance of code on a proactive basis


Education Requirements:


  • Bachelors Degree (any field)


Desired Background/Skills:


  • Open source software contribution

  • Experience with a relational database (MySQL, PostGres, MS SQL Server)


Qualifications:


  • Good understanding of software development principles

  • Self-motivated, with an ability to operate successfully under time pressure

  • Knowledge of PHP, GoLang, or Node.js
