Instructional Designer


Job Description:

The instructional designer's primary purpose, is to address the business challenges of clients by working with stakeholders, target audiences, subject matter experts, and LPS team members to create learning and performance solutions that achieve defined learning goals. The instructional designer will specialize in analysis, design, development, writing, and success measurement of all types of learning solutions. The instructional designer will also perform general tasks during solution development and be responsible along with the other team members, for not only creating a solid learning solution, but for meeting, budget, deadline and quality requirements.


Responsibilities:


  • Analysis: Working with the enterprise clients, conduct analyses (needs, learner, context, task) for custom content development opportunities and design effective and measurable instructional solutions

  • Blueprinting and writing (all modalities): Identify and document the target audience and learning objectives, design and write creative, learner-centered, performance-based solutions as part of a team and/or as the only resource

  • Customer interaction: Represent client by working closely with external customers when working on custom projects

  • Create templates, such as requirements documents, design documents, and storyboards, and establish processes to facilitate the design of the learning program; follow various style guidelines and maintain style sheets

  • Editing: Edit courseware for instructional design, style, and consistency

  • Teamwork: Serve as an expert on instructional design methodology, best practices, etc., when working as part of a project development team, while also contributing to the project development by performing tasks that are critical to the project development, but not necessarily a instructional-design task

  • Work with team members, including the client, project manager, learning architect, subject matter experts, course writers, and course developers to develop superior, innovative learning programs and to improve the process that results in these products

  • Travel off-site to consult with client when necessary (approximately 10-25 percent)

  • Research advances in the field of learning, then evaluate and adapt these improvements to the content development process and learning product design

  • Sales support and scoping

  • Other tasks as needed


Education Requirements:


  • Degree in Education, English, Journalism or corresponding experience

Qualifications:


  • Extensive experience in instructional design, including needs, learner, context, and task analyses

  • Experience in working with external clients to identify needs, objectives, learning gaps, assessment approach in order to develop successful learning and performance solutions preferred

  • Extensive experience in developing learning-centered, performance based learning programs for many different audiences in different environments and industries

  • Broad experience developing learning programs for classroom and e-learning delivery

  • Experience working with various kinds of subject matter in multiple industries and be able to quickly understand the content to the extent necessary to create solid solutions, ask valuable questions and identify potential challenges during solution development

  • Extensive experience in technical communication (writing and editing)

  • Experience working closely with clients, subject matter experts, and development team members to create learning programs that fit client needs

  • Software proficiency: word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, diagramming, portable document, screen capture, collaboration tools, course development tools
