Information Technology Support Specialist


Job Description:

Our client in a local goverment agancy in Wilmington, NC is seeking an experienced IT Support Specialist to provide technical assistance to their team comprised of multiple departments and agencies. The hours for this position will be Monday through Friday from 8am-5pm, rate of pay $18/hr,


Responsibilities:


  • Display routine knowledge of Operating Systems administration, Ethernet networks, mobility, and wireless concepts

  • Provide knowledge and application of computer security principles and best practices

  • Coordinate system security to include assigning user's appropriate identification information, adding and deleting users as necessary, assessing individual access needs and making system changes, and troubleshooting system access issues

  • Provide end-user support for computer applications which include accounts administration, designing and generating various reports, creating back-up copies of data sources, and loading new data into systems

  • Assist with creating and maintaining documentation as well as developing new technology standards

  • Assist with making purchase recommendations for computer hardware and software

  • Provide consistently excellent customer service

  • Monitor hardware, software, and telecommunications equipment to include installing, upgrading, and patching applications, configuring programs to meet end-user needs, troubleshooting issues, and reviewing usage reports

  • Serve as a consultant to department heads and staff by assessing needs and recommending appropriate hardware and software

  • Train end users on use of applications and hardware

  • Diagnose and resolve problems reported through an eticket system

  • Maintain organizational Service Level Agreements (SLA's) by communicating and documenting incident or service request information within the ticketing system

  • Maintain a positive and proactive attitude, with a 'can-do' mentality

  • Complete special computer projects as assigned


Education Requirements:


  • Associate's Degree in Computer Science or a related field

  • Two years of experience installing and troubleshooting computer problems

  • Or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform essential duties


Desired Background/Skills:


  • Preferred certificates CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA A+


Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of software maintenance including installation, patching, and upgrades

  • Knowledge, installation, and support of peripherals, printers, and working with print servers

  • Ability to operate effectively in a team-based environment

  • Values input from others, and provides constructive ideas to assist the team with goals and assignments

  • Cursory knowledge of project management practices and principles


Other Information:


  • Must have valid NC drivers licence and clean driving record

  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
