Job Description:

Our client, one of the nation's largest health and employee benefits companies, is looking for a Director of Benefits Consulting to join their team! The contributions that a Director, Benefits Consulting (Middle Market) makes to the company is to lead, coach, guide and develop the people in the department, enabling them to retain clients. This is a full time, direct hire position based in Atlanta, GA.


  • Understands thoroughly, and stays knowledgeable of middle market health & welfare benefits, including plan designs, legislation and emerging trends.

  • Effectively leads their team to retain book of business.

  • Meets or exceeds departmental annual retention goals.

  • Works consistently to build client rapport and trust, which includes phone calls and onsite visits.

  • Partners with carrier, client, and internal leadership to quickly resolve complex issues.

  • Acts intentionally to retain clients.

  • Communicates regularly with client team and leaders regarding vulnerable clients, lost groups, key contact turn over and case transition

  • Oversees organization of regular onsite training by carriers.

  • Responsible for the ongoing recruitment and hiring of team members. Consistently trains and coaches team members

  • Plans and implements an intentional one-on-one training for each new departmental hire.

  • Manages capacity and workload of the team

  • Acts as a point of escalation for team members

  • Provides ongoing training opportunities regarding industry trend, carrier products and consulting skills.

  • Monitors group case load and provides renewal updates each month to the management team.

  • Participates in Integration Week, which is a training week provided for all new employees.

  • Participates as a member of the Management team, including regular monthly meetings, strategic planning, reviewing client capacity and preparing for future growth and needs of the organization.

Education Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree is required

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Applicable professional designations (RHU, REBC, etc.) are preferred.


  • A minimum of three (5) years of significant health & welfare market experience.

  • Knowledge of the middle market health markets is beneficial; the ability to learn the field quickly is essential.

  • An earned and maintained Georgia Accident, Sickness and Life License is required.

  • Management skills - includes staff in planning, decision-making, facilitating and process improvement; makes self available to staff; provides regular performance feedback; and develops skills and encourages growth in others.

  • Communication - writes and speaks clearly and persuasively in various situations; demonstrates group presentation skills and conducts meetings; interacts with people well, on the phone and in person.

  • Knowledge of Zywave products, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Other software familiarity is beneficial as is the ability to learn various software applications.
