Clinical Technician
Job Description:
Our partner, a national provider of diagnostic testing, is hiring for a Clinical Technologist in Shelton, CT. In the this department, technologists will perform tests and analysis according to established testing procedures.
Responsibilities:
Perform all technical grossing procedures required to process and submit specimens for microscopic review as per standard operating procedures under the indirect and direct supervision of pathologists.
Operate and maintain automated tissue processors, performs tissue embedding, Cryostat sectioning, operate and maintain tissue embedding units
Operate and maintain H&E stainers, IHC stainers, special stains stainers and coverslipping units, perform manual coverslipping.
Provide recut preparation for microtomy and slide organization to perform case compilation for pathology.
Quality control completed cases.
Scan cases out of the lab to pathology, maintain log books, and be familiar with location of stored specimens.
Locate specimens and pulls from various departments as requested, paraffin block filing, lab document archiving, prepare and discard chemical reagents such as reagent alcohols.
Perform safety checks in lab.
Work with chemicals such as Xylene, Alcohols, Formaldehyde, etc.
Ability to stand-remaining on one?s feet in an upright position, sitting-remaining in the normal seated position, handling-seizing, holding and grasping for long periods of time.
Handle minute patient tissue samples.
Education Requirements:
BA or BS degree Biology, Chemistry or related field
Desired Background/Skills:
Knowledge of hazardous waste characteristics, hazardous waste volume generation limits, accumulation limits, spill control measures, record keeping, proper handling and container management, labeling, container and storage inspection.
Effective written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
Working knowledge of molecular biology, microbiology or protein isolation
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Qualifications:
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Knowledge/experience with aseptic technique
Meticulous, detail-oriented, and organized
Able to follow instructions and protocols precisely and consistently
Able to prepare solutions by calculating molarity and dilutions
Able to work in fast paced environment
Willingness/able to work in clinical lab settings
