Bakery Manager


Job Description:

Our client, a fast-paced retail bakery in Wilmington, is seeking an experienced and customer-focused Manager. The ideal Manager will be a mature person who is willing to learn, perform and oversee the functions of the bakery. The Manager will be responsible for the smooth operations of the store, overseeing daily operations and assisting with sales and marketing to achieve the projected growth of the business. This position reports directly to the Bakery Owner.


Responsibilities:


  • Understand and perform each position in the bakery, including baking, frosting, crafting and guest service

  • Manage, train, and evaluate each team member in their respective positions

  • Maintain and comply with all safety and security policies, contacting the appropriate person(s) for situations that may arise

  • Maintain and supervise the execution of all health code regulations

  • Monitor and order inventories, including but not limited to: baking ingredients, baked goods, retail items, and marketing inventories

  • Monitor bakery expenses, including but not limited to: waste and labor

  • Maintain superior product quality

  • Complete all administrative duties on deadline schedule

  • Uphold the image, brand, and culture of the bakery


Education Requirements:


  • High school diploma required

  • Four-year degree preferred


Desired Background/Skills:


  • Proven record of developing and maintaining an environment where there is true commitment and a focus on the best service to the guests and the highest quality standards of the products

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience

  • Willing to work weekends

  • Candidate with leadership and management experience preferred

  • Although preferred, no culinary or bakery experienced is required


Qualifications:


  • Possessing of an energetic and positive attitude, good communication skills, and an understanding of and ability to implement a team approach in the bakery

  • Goal-oriented with a sense of urgency

  • Trustworthy and reliable

  • Understanding of and skilled at utilization of time management

  • Able to work a required minimum of 45 hours per week and 50-55 hours per holiday weeks

  • Able to lift 50-60 lbs, to stand for long periods of time and to commute when needed

  • Must be knowledgeable in the basics of business profitability

  • Genuinely caring of and conscious of the needs of others

  • Comfortable with public speaking


Other Information:


  • The Manager position is a salaried, full-time role requiring approximately 45 to 50 work hours per week

  • The bakery operates Monday-Saturday (closed Sundays!!)

  • The Manager must be able to work weekends
