Accounting Specialist


Job Description:

Our client, a global non-profit research organization, has an immediate opening for an Accounting Specialist to support and assist with reconciliations of billed contract costs associated with federal rate changes. This position is to assist the contract closeout team with executing analysis on many projects that were acquired with a recent acquisition. This role needs strong accounting knowledge and reconciliation experience. The candidate needs to be able to use solid Excel skills to apply varying rates to costs previously billed and prove out additional rate amounts to invoice or credit. There will be some reading and understanding of contracts. Expertise in contract closeout is not needed but beneficial. This is a 6 month contract position with possibility of extension located in Research Triangle Park, NC.


Responsibilities:


  • Must be able to review invoicing records and reconcile them to the reporting requirements of their underlying contracts

  • Must have strong accounting training and reconciliation experience with ability to analyze project cost

  • Must be able to understand calculation of indirect burden rates applied to direct cost

  • Must be able to review and organize electronic files

  • Must be adequately proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products to prepare such work efficiently, however excellent Excel skills are needed

  • Must be able to adequately describe deficiencies in data, so that remedies to such deficiencies can be sought quickly


Education Requirements:


  • Degree in Business/Finance/Accounting required

  • 3-5 years' experience in related position preferred


Desired Background/Skills:


  • Familiarity with government contracting and Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Agreements preferred


Qualifications:


  • Great organization needed with attention to detail

  • Ability to work efficiently in a small team

  • Ability to work independently
