Job Description:

Our client, a leading benefits brokerage firm, is seeking a Senior Benefits Consultant to join their team in Orlando, FL. The Senior Benefits Consultant is primarily responsible for retaining an assigned book of clients in the Large Group Market and specifically in the Public Sector markets. The consultant must have demonstrated successful experience with self-funded health plans. The consultant will oversee strategy, financial and claims utilization analysis, optimal health improvement programs, benefit design, plan RFPs and renewals, benchmarking, management and committee meeting presentations, and overall service delivery. This is a direct hire opportunity.


  • Develops sophisticated request for proposals, benefit design and renewal strategies and drives the development of solutions to address complex client issues

  • Looks for opportunities to grow public sector line of business

  • Works closely with account management and/or client service teams on management and administrative meetings, pre-renewal strategy, RFP development, distribution analysis, and presentations, health plan improvement programs, SPRs, open enrollment strategy, post renewal analysis, and mandated filing requirements such as annual Florida Statue 112.08 Filings

  • Determines the full scope of services to be provided to client and manages the multi-year strategic plan

  • Manages complex negotiations between the employer client, unions, carriers/vendors and company

  • Clearly establishes and communicates timelines with the client service team(s) and keeps them apprised of changes

  • Maintains accountability for revenue and profitability for client accounts and projects

  • Monitors the success of projects in terms of scope, budget, timeliness, outcomes, and client satisfaction

  • Oversees the on-boarding of new clients by working collaboratively with client service team(s) to establish the implementation plan, team, expectations, and timeline

  • Ensures client service team(s) exceeds client expectations

  • Familiarity with lines of business and presents opportunities to clients when appropriate

  • Establishes effective carrier/vendor communications to serve clients in benefits procurement and administration

  • Presents at and attends industry conferences and union/public trade shows

  • Maintains a full understanding of carrier, vendor and provider programs, the insurance markets, funding alternatives, networks and benefit plan options

  • Ensures accuracy of client data, client financial and claims utilization, and ad hoc reporting

  • Remains fully knowledgeable on compliance issues governed by legislation and regulations impacting employer sponsored health and welfare plans such as HIPAA, ERISA, Tax Code SEC 125, PPACA and state and federal compliance issues

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree, or equivalent work experience

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Ability to effectively interact with senior managers, benefits and HR managers and directors, benefits administrative staff, and benefits committee members

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Must be self-motivated and disciplined

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to manage ones workload

  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment


  • 5-8 years of benefits consulting experience in large group/public sector

  • Consultative selling and servicing background and experience

  • Experience with self-funded health plans

  • Must be up to date and knowledgeable on Health Care Reform and health and ancillary insurance products

  • Experience in public sector bid process, RFP processes

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and familiar with database applications

  • Valid life and health insurance license, required
