Part Time Research Assistant


Job Description:

The Research Assistant will help coordinate and assist in data collection for fully funded Mental Health research study focused on the development and early emergence of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in young children, ages 5 to 7. The Position requires attention to detail, excellent organization, communication skills, comfort interacting with parents, comfort interacting with young children, comfort with adults/children conversing about mental health to include topics of suicidal thoughts, abuse, victimization, and trauma. This person should have the ability to function independently on a team. Part Time (20 to 30 hours/week) contract, 12 months (likely will be extended).


Responsibilities:


  • 2 employees will be sent on each visit, one will interview parent and one interview child. Carpool encouraged.

  • Home visits: assist with data collection us interviews, questionnaires, and behavioral tasks with parents and children as young as 5 and parents. Heart rate data will also be collected.

  • Visit will include required monitor of daily diary data and schedule administration of assessments.

  • Coordinate project communications and schedule meetings, develop meeting agendas, note taking, draft progress reports, and monitor project timelines and deadlines.

  • Develop research study protocols.

  • Track and monitor participant study progress and completion of assessments.

  • Work with supervisors to administer suicide risk assessments with children.

  • Work with collaborate university sites to coordinate study activities.

  • Assist in data management activities.

  • Review and proof own work for accuracy and completeness.

  • Assist in writing reports and contract/grant proposals to include draft report sections and tables/figures.

  • Review and proof own work for accuracy and completeness.


Education Requirements:


  • BS Degree, GPA of 3.5 (preferred)

  • One year of relevant experience (could include internships or undergrad research assistant, preferred).

    Qualifications:


    • Demonstrated interest/background in one or more of the follow topical areas: mental health promotion, including suicidal thoughts and behaviors, disadvantaged populations; research on boys and men of color; research on trauma and exposure to violence.

    • Demonstrated interest or background in one or more of the follow technical areas: mental health research studies, program evaluation, school based implementation research; qualitative and formative research, data collection, qualitative and quantitative analysis, report writing, and training program delivery.

    • Experience and conduct research or data collection with youth and/or caregivers on sensitive topics such as mental health, victimization, or related topics.


    Other Information:


    • LOGISTICS and WORK SCHEDULE:

    • Position entails a flexible work schedule of 20 to 30 hours per week with hours scheduled for mornings, afternoons and evenings.

    • Each visit can take 3 to 4 hours of interviewing, assessments, etc.

    • Mileage reimbursement for visits is available.

    • Required travel, up to two (2) homes of families per 8 hour workday, for data collection with children and their parents.

    • Family visits - will attempt to book as many visits for Mon-Fri. 8AM to 5PM. However, many families can only meet in evenings during the week and on the weekend.

    • This person must be available for at least 3 evenings per week (5pm to 8PM) or (6pm-9pm) for a family visit. [does not mean they will always be working 3 evenings/week]

    • Research Assistant must be available at least 4 weekend days, per month. So, available for a combination of four(4) Saturdays and/or Sundays per month. [does not mean they will always be scheduled for four (4) weekend days per month.]

    • Full in office role (RTP,Durham), when not on client visits.May be flexible to work from home when not on client visit.

    • Actual schedule of days/times can look different each week, but schedule will be for 20 to 30 hours per week.
