Director of Nursing


Job Description:

Our valued client in beautiful Hawaii is in need of a Director of Nursing who will be responsible for managing the well-being of Plaza residents by ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and facility policies and procedures. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies to develop, support and coordinate resident care, and related administrative functions in representation of the community.


Responsibilities:


  • Participates in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of nursing and care staff personnel

  • Schedules staffing needs within budget as business needs demands minimizing the use of third party agencies where possible

  • Counsels team members when required in a fair and consistent manner while adhering to The Plaza policies and procedures and state/federal employment laws

  • Supervises nursing/care staff and regularly evaluates their performance, frequently engages team members (e.g. Initial/30/90/biannual/annual)

  • Conducts regular shift reports, daily meetings and other modes of communication to disseminate information, interpret policies and procedures or address concerns as needed

  • Assures resident nursing department and work areas are clean, neat and orderly

  • Develops and provides ongoing in-service trainings for all care staff as relevant to the needs of the resident and the community

  • Performs assessments in coordination with Administrator and Marketing Staff for each resident, prior to admission to determine if the prospective resident?s care needs can be appropriately met by the community

  • Creates Resident Service Plans: using information gathered during the assessment process, develops Care Communication for resident, family members and staff.

  • Conducts routine assessments related to resident service plans to include initial assessment prior to admission, 30 days post admission, bi-annually, and during acute changes in condition.

  • Facilitates and encourages resident and family participation service/care planning by explaining alternative choices and involves them in educational programs.

  • Oversees nursing and care staff practices, ensures care will be provided with the best interest of the resident in mind to assure prevention of complications, promote independence and a high quality of life.

  • Manages care implementation by nursing/care staff; ensures proper documentation of care delivery as ordered by the physician in accordance with federal requirements, state regulations and The Plaza policies and procedures; recognizing any deviation from

  • Resident Service Plans, Department of Health standards and Plaza policies and procedures.

  • Monitors residents? nutritional status to ensure care needs are met in accordance with Resident Service Plans, Department of Health standards and The Plaza policies and procedures.

  • Performs rounds frequently throughout the day to observe efficiency of care service delivery; interviews staff, residents, families or other parties of interest as appropriate.

  • Maintains Medication Management Programming; assessing individual residents to determine ability for self-administration of medication, provides oversight of medication storage and administration as appropriate.

  • Routinely monitors and audits medication management program and ensures medications/treatments are administered and documented by nursing and care staff as ordered by the physician in accordance with federal requirements, state regulations and

  • Plaza policies and procedures.


Education Requirements:



    Desired Background/Skills:


    • Minimum of three (3) years? experience in an assisted living facility or long-term care


    Qualifications:


    • Current State of Hawaii Nursing License RN or higher (in good standing)

    • Current Tuberculosis Clearance, according to the State of Hawaii Department of Health regulations

    • CPR and First Aid Certification

    • One (1) years? experience in nurse management or supervision
