3D Graphic Designer

Job Description:

Our client, located in the Raleigh-Durham area, is seeking a 3D Graphic Designer to join their team. The 3D Graphic Designer is responsible for translating general principles of 3D and 2D graphics design into specific production requirements in support of various government contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of experts crossing multiple areas of expertise and may be expected to contribute to curricula development, evaluations, publications, presentations, client demonstrations, and professional meetings. This is a full time, contract position. This position requires a working knowledge of Unity 3D and 3D Studio Max (or Maya).


  • Develop graphic solutions or enhancements in relevant research areas.

  • Develop enhancements and/or corrections to existing applications.

  • Assume increasingly more responsibility for proposal development and writing (technical and budget).

  • Assess, evaluate, and maintain traceability for requirements including derived requirements, use cases, mock-ups, prototypes, and workflows.

  • Implement, integrate, and test graphics within software applications.

  • Accurately allocate product component requirements.

  • Create requirements for the "look-and-feel", original graphics, and icons for use in the User Interface.

  • Implement the design parameters, style guides and visual standards.

  • Participate in peer and client reviews and demonstrations to further refine the end product.

  • Provide technical information and support for client meetings.

  • Perform system design and development of architectures.

  • Perform requirements analysis, functional analysis, use case development, and specification development

  • Perform interface design, control, and documentation (ICD development)

  • Assess, evaluate and maintain traceability for all requirements including derived, use cases, and workflows

  • Develop graphic designs resulting in design drawings, system specifications, interface definitions, and functioning software.

  • Develop test plans and procedures.

  • Identify validation criteria.

  • Assist with the identification and capture of new business related to RTI programs and projects.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience , or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Background/Skills:


    • Working knowledge of Unity 3D and 3D Studio Max (or Maya).

    • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including interpersonal, correspondence, personal, telephonic and electronic means.

    • Knowledge and experience in multimedia, including social media, videography and photography.

    • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

    • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

    • Strong verbal communication skills, including ability to present ideas coherently and persuasively

    • Capable of completing writing assignments quickly and efficiently.

    • Ability to draft copy for a wide range of media including print, online, multimedia and face-to-face

    • Proficiency at creating short video interviews and video stories for dissemination internally and externally

    • Sensitivity to deadlines and production targets while flexible enough to deal effectively with changes in the situation requiring quick adjustments in work plans

    • Energized by a fast-paced environment; able to deliver results on time

    • Ability to establish strong working relationships with key work partners

    • This client is a U.S. government contractor with controlled-access facilities and must register non-U.S. Persons; therefore, all visitors to their facilities must declare their nationality and citizenship upon arrival at, and before entering their facilities.
