Vice President of Care Services and Advocacy

Job Description:

Our Client, a national not-for-profit health organization, is searching for a Vice President of Care Services and Advocacy. They will be responsible for the overall management, quality, and financial viability of the Chapters patient services, including planning, supervising, implementing, and evaluating all Care Services programs and staff throughout the Chapter territory to ensure that the Chapter fulfills its mission of patient care, advocacy, awareness, and funding research. The Vice President of Care Services and Advocacy has Chapter wide responsibilities, including accountability for creating a cohesive culture grounded in the Chapters values and strategic direction. Serves as a strategic leader in the organization, working closely with the Chief Operating Officer and senior management team to ensure optimal operations of Care Services and Advocacy within the Chapter.


  • Develop and implement the Care Services & Advocacy Department operational plan in alignment with the Chapter strategic plan

  • Develop, implement, manage and assess all Care Services Programs for needed changes and design new programs to address changing or unmet client/family needs

  • Develop and implement data driven processes for measuring, evaluating, and reporting program success

  • Provide updates to the Leadership Team and Board of Vice Presidents on a regular basis regarding care services and advocacy activities

  • Oversee each Care Services & Advocacy Department activity area to meet annual goals, including (but not limited to): Clinic visits, Clinic funding, Grant Program, Connection Groups, Loan Closet, Caregivers Conference, National Advocacy, State Advocacy, etc.

  • Provide leadership and supervision to the Care Services staff and assist with following tasks: Provide consultation to people with ALS and their families, via telephone/video, e-mail, written correspondence, in home, in hospital and long term care facilities, concerning symptom management and resource options

  • Provide relevant and timely in-person and virtual education to various agencies, health care facilities, people with ALS and their families

  • Liaison to all clinic medical Vice Presidents

  • Represent the Chapter at local ALS clinics, while providing information and consultation to clinic staff,

  • and people with ALS and their families ? Maintain the confidential patient database, while tracking information and involvement with people

  • Ensure Care Services Team documents uniformly and maintains confidentiality

  • Oversee monthly patient and caregiver messaging and quarterly Chapter newsletter and Collaborate with the Chapter staff to provide articles and stories for various Chapter needs

  • Ensure written information provided to people with ALS, their families and health care professionals is up-to-date

  • Act as staff liaison to the Medical Advisory Council, and other like constituent groups

  • Work with the Chapter?s fund development staff to implement a Chapter-wide collaboration with Care Services staff to promote an understanding of Chapter fundraising initiatives and participate in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors as needed, including participation in Chapter events that require attendance

  • Work with Vice President of Finance and Operations to develop annual program budgets

  • Review budgets on a regular basis and make adjustments as needed

  • Develop and steward over-arching partnerships and collaborations with community organizations to benefit the Chapter and its constituents and to position the Chapter as a community leader

  • Other duties as assigned

Education Requirements:

  • Master?s degree in business administration, public health, social work, nursing, or a related area preferred

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, patient assessment skills, patient advocacy, in-patient and out patient care, end of life issues, care planning, and case management preferred

  • Experience in participating in community coalitions addressing health care access, long term care issues, and the rights of people with disabilities preferred

  • Experience managing multi site programs and remote staff preferred

  • Program management for terminally ill population or related programs preferred

  • Experience using Salesforce, Salsa CRM, Luminate, and database programs preferred

  • May require occasional travel outside of service area for regional or national meetings


  • Licensed health professional required

  • Three or more years? of senior management/executive level experience required

  • Five or more years? proven ability to manage and lead a large and diverse staff required

  • Seven or more years? experience in health care, community services, or a related field required

  • New program development experience and ongoing program management experience required

  • Successful management of budgets and proven ability to meet financial targets required

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite & Teams required

  • Ability to travel up to 50% throughout service area, some nights and weekends required

  • Must maintain required insurance on automobile driven for business purposes
