Laboratory Assistant
Job Description:
Our client, a national provider of diagnostic testing, has immediate needs for Specimen Processing Specialists at their Burlington facility. In these roles, employees will have the opportunity to work in a lab setting as part of an international genomics project. These positions will work on an open-ended contract basis with the potential for full time hire. This is a multi-discipline position with 3 primary components: specimen accessioning, sample splitting/sorting and data entry. All positions will work in a laboratory setting and applicants must be comfortable working around human specimens (saliva, urine and/or blood). We are currently hiring for 1st and 3rd shift schedules. Pay rates will be dependent on shift assignments and will start at $11-11.50/hr.
Responsibilities:
Unpack specimens and organize containers for further processing
Will work in a fast paced environment handling a high volume of human specimens daily
Prepare all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments
Accurately perform data entry and verification of test requisition information
Prepare excess specimen samples for storage and resolve any document-problem specimens
Education Requirements:
Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent

Qualifications:
Experience working in a face-paced, hands-on work environment
Prior experience in Manufacturing, Biotechnology or Healthcare is preferred
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Excellent computer skills including ability to accurately type and perform data entry
Ability to work unsupervised as well as working with other team members
Ability to lift up to 30lbs
Ability to work in a repetitive work environment including standing or remaining seated for prolonged periods
Ability to properly identify hazardous materials in the workplace and knowledge of personal protection measures. Must comply with applicable safety procedures
