Insurance Follow Up Clerk

Job Description:

Our client, a durable medical equipment supplier in Wilmington, is seeking an Insurance Follow Up Clerk to join their team. This company is passionate about career and personal development and growth. The Insurance Follow Up Clerk will be responsible for receiving orders from medical offices and obtaining insurance authorizations. The hours for the Insurance Authorization Clerk are Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with 1 hour for lunch. Pay starts at $13/hour.


  • Receive orders from medical offices needing insurance authorization

  • Verify receipt of order and obtain any additional necessary information

  • Obtain insurance authorizations and follow up on requests

  • Determine outstanding insurance claims that need follow up

  • Obtain information needed for billing

  • Perform other clerical duties related to insurance and billing

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Associate degree preferred

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Minimum two years experience in a medical office

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent phone etiquette and internal/external customer service skills

  • Experience using Microsoft Office and standard office equipment


  • Knowledge of medical terminology as well as insurance and reimbursement procedures

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations and other insurance guidelines

  • Data entry skills (50-60 WPM) required

  • Ability to file and maintain proper notes for recording

  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance guidelines

  • Ability to establish and maintain organization in the work-space to improve efficiency and minimize errors

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Insurance Follow Up Clerks must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
