Job Description:

Our client, a global nonprofit research organization, has an immediate opening for an Education Business Development Consultant in the Texas area. The organization's Center for Education Services (CES) focuses on building the skills and professional capacity of K-12 educators to overcome challenges, improve practice, and sustain performance. From the classroom to the board room, they focus on four areas that they believe are levers for change in education: strengthening instruction, developing leaders, improving organizational operations, and facilitating collaborative networks. The Education Business Development Consultant will join a team that believes in empowering K-12 educators to reach their highest potential, so that all students reach theirs. Their partners tend to be innovative and growth-minded schools, districts, and organizations who embrace the opportunities of an ever-changing education landscape. This entrepreneurial position will focus on business and partnership development in Texas as CES works to expand its footprint to include projects in Texas. This position will serve as the site-based business development leader in Texas and will be accountable for strategy development, opportunity exploration, proposal development, and relationship building with key stakeholders. This position may also engage in direct support for consulting projects with the team's K-12 partners and clients in applicable content domains. This position is a 12 month (W-2) contract to hire telecommuter position. Please include cover letter when applying for the position.


  • Lead Texas-based business development efforts

  • Develop and continuously refine the strategy for building a portfolio of K-12 projects in Texas and contribute to overall CES business development strategy

  • Develop and nurture relationships with key parties in Texas

  • Prepare proposals, attend meetings, and support other business development activities

  • Provide regular insights regarding market trends, changes, and opportunities

  • Meet with stakeholders, including superintendents, district administrators, school board members, policymakers, and organizational representatives to expand awareness of the organization and explore partnership and support opportunities

  • Prepare occasional research briefs based on special topics and trends in Texas education

  • Prepare client-facing project deliverables and presentations with exceptional quality

  • Participate in CES team meetings and activities as a telecommuter

  • Support the broader multi-state business development and market analysis efforts beyond Texas to broaden national impact

  • Provide direct expertise to K-12 clients and partners, such as helping school districts interpret and implement education policies

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, or related field (advanced degree preferred)

  • Experience working in leadership roles at the K-12 school district level and/or state education agency level

  • Experience working in education consulting is preferred

  • Strong familiarity with public education policy and trends in Texas, evidenced by direct experience

Desired Background/Skills:


    • Strong written and verbal communication skills

    • Experience preparing written proposals

    • Evidence of ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with key education influencers in Texas

    • Experience facilitating and presenting in front of groups

    • Project management experience and ability to manage competing tasks

    • Client first disposition evidenced by flexibility, responsiveness, humility and commitment to public service

    • Ability to work independently and with teams in a fast-paced work environment

    • Willingness to travel within Texas and domestically up to 50% annually

    • Skills with Microsoft Office Suite, (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
